The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and introducing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

The preview reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
