19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first trophy for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former world number one, has endured a difficult season, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and finally splitting with former trainer Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is his initial title following the Italian tournament and first on a hard court from March of that year.

The win also signifies he has won 21 victories at twenty-one different tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my children at once, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," said tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his last six finals, comprising in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had prompted observers to question if his skill to perform at the elite level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, securing 4 of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.

Both players traded service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his maiden professional victory, seized the initiative to create a final set.

Moutet defended 4 early break points in a competitive deciding set before the Russian won the break to that score to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he secured victory with a rally at the net, with Moutet incapable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
