Widely circulated footage appeared to show Jones flashing his middle finger at Jets fans, though he maintains he was actually giving a thumbs-up to Cowboys fans in attendance as his team secured a 37-22 victory.
“It was regrettable. That was kind of an exchange with our fans seated near me,” Jones stated during a Tuesday interview. “Present was a large group of Dallas supporters—not New York fans, Cowboys fans. The whole venue was filled with enthusiasm for the Cowboys.”
He further emphasized that the signal was entirely unintentional, happening amid the elation following the team’s last score. “I simply showed the wrong finger,” he noted. “It was inadvertently performed. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it accidental, you can. However, it got corrected rapidly.”

This incident isn’t the first time an NFL owner has been penalized for misconduct. Previous examples include:
- Panthers owner David Tepper was fined $300,000 for throwing a drink at spectators in January 2024.
